My Basketball Story

Growing up playing basketball came late for me. I found the love of the game when I lived in California around the 4th grade. I never cared and loved something so passionately where even my mom took notice and asked if I wanted to try out and play next season. Me and my mom moved back to Michigan in 5th grade and I tried out for my very first team. Naturally, I was the best or one of the best players in the area but the city I lived in was very small and basketball wasn’t as popular as being a football player. Regardless I played year round and dealt with a lot of minor racism growing up in the sport because I was the only Asian playing at that time. I couldn’t understand it, but never bothered me. So as I got better,  better teams started to take notice. I was able to try out for the number 1 travel program in Michigan called the Family (EYBL) and I ended up making it and playing alongside the best players in the state and nationally. Even with that exposure, it came with little attention or being taken seriously, but gave me the confidence knowing I can play at the next level. I ended up skipping my local high school and transferring to a private school in Detroit Michigan where I ended up being the starting point guard on varsity and made a name for myself. By my junior year, I transferred back to my local high school to be with friends where I helped lead our school program to the best school record for my junior and senior year (18-2). I was also all conference and all county first team and co-county player of the year. With all the accolades, I still didn’t get the college offers I wished for. My best offer was a preferred walk on at the University of Detroit-Mercy which I ended up taking, but fell through half way through summer due to a coaching change. That led me to deciding last second to go to a local division 3 program where things started I turn for the worst. I didn’t enjoy my coaches or environment at that time which led me to quitting and get into bodybuilding and working a normal job while finishing school. During my time of internships which was at an automotive supplier, I was still playing competitive basketball in leagues and open gym. As I got stronger I seemed to get better. My old trainer called one day and told me to come workout with some NBA draftees and an NBA agent would be there. I declined at first, but ended up going and impressed the agent who still represents me today. From then until now, I have made it to training camp for the Orlando magic development team, played in the Drew League, invited to NBA summer league, played as an important in Mongolia for 2 teams and almost won a championship. Played in Korea and china and ended up playing and coaching in Iceland as an import. I’ve had many ups and downs including 2 major ankle injuries that led to surgery, but was able to fight through each season as best as possible. Covid and injuries led me back home, but ended up being a great situation for me. Now I am able to work and train with players all over the world and help you get to the next level!
